Come ride the Rio Sonora, one of Sonora’s scenic rural tourist routes. This long weekend getaway starts in Bisbee with a night at the El Dorado Suites Hotel and will take you to the real Mexico, to out of the way places where few tourists travel. Tom Matthews of Turkey Creek Motorcycle Tours will escort the group across the border, and assist with obtaining visas and permits. You will ride through quaint Mexican pueblos founded in the 17th century. The roads are twisty, the scenery is incredibly beautiful, the people are friendly and the food is authentic Sonoran cuisine. We will stop in Arizpe, the former capital of Sonora, founded by missionary Jeronimo de la Canal in 1646. After a visit to the Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion Temple, built in 1646, where the founder of San Francisco, Juan Bautista de Anza, is buried, we will wind our way to Banámichi, a quiet little pueblo on the Rio Sonora. We will spend two nights at Hotel Los Arcos de Sonora in Banámichi a newly renovated Mexican hacienda. Off street parking is available.

Our second day in Sonora takes us over more Sonoran mountain ranges and to Magdalena de Kino, a city steeped in religious and cultural history. After a visit to the historic church in the town square, a bit of shopping and lunch, we return to Banámichi. Weather and time permitting, a visit to the thermal pools for a dip, a hike along the river or a horseback ride may be in order. An authentic Sonoran dinner and conversation in front of the outdoor fireplace rounds out the evening.

Our third day takes us back over the Ruta Rio Sonora with a different perspective of the countryside and to Bisbee.

Quoted from the LA Times.
Robert Reid, who has contributed to Lonely Planet's Mexico volumes and serves as the New York-based U.S. travel editor for the guidebook publisher, likes to remind people that Mexico is about the size of France, Spain, Germany and Italy -- combined.

Before you let trouble in one corner of the country [Mexico] affect your travel to another corner, he said, "Imagine a shootout in Sicily forcing a canceled vacation in Germany."
